A dramatic and highly collectible Error Note — the 1991 Bank of Canada Twenty Dollar, certified and graded Choice About New 58PPQ by Legacy Currency Grading (Cert #80903326). Catalogue reference BC-58b-i, bearing the signatures of G.G. Bonin (Deputy Governor) and J.W. Thiessen (Governor), serial number AVJ0197941, Plate 74/63. Legacy notes Partial Face to Back Offset as the error type — a striking and visually dramatic production error.
A face-to-back offset error occurs during the printing process when wet ink from one side of the note transfers onto the opposite side, resulting in a ghost image of the reverse design appearing on the face, or vice versa. On this note, the iconic Common Loon reverse design is clearly visible bleeding through to the obverse, making it an exceptional conversation piece and a prized addition to any error note collection. At 58PPQ (Premium Paper Quality), this note is in near-uncirculated condition with outstanding paper quality — exceptionally rare for an error note of this type.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at right, with the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa at centre-right, on a distinctive olive-green ground. The reverse displays the celebrated Common Loon (Gavia immer) on a tranquil northern lake, surrounded by boreal forest, by artist Robert Bateman — one of the most beloved reverse designs in modern Canadian numismatic history. Printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited.
