Silver, Gold, Platinum/Palladium and Copper Bullion
The term "bullion" refers to coins that are valued for their gold or silver content, rather than their face value. Bullion coins can be minted from gold, silver, platinum, or other precious metals and are typically purchased as investments. In contrast, numismatic coins are sought by collectors to enhance their collections. The value of a numismatic coin is determined not just by its denomination, such as a quarter or dime, but also by its rarity and condition, which are assessed according to established market trends and book values. The value of bullion is based on the actual weight of the silver, gold, or platinum it contains. Bullion is measured in troy ounces, which are slightly heavier than standard ounces; one troy ounce equals 31.1 grams, while a standard ounce is 28.35 grams.
