Benjamin Franklin and the Liberty Bell

The obverse depicts Benjamin Franklin facing right, with LIBERTY above, IN GOD WE TRUST below and the date beside his portrait. The reverse features the Liberty Bell and a small eagle, accompanied by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The designs by John R. Sinnock link the series to enduring symbols of American history.

A late-series silver proof

Issued near the end of the Franklin half dollar's 1948–1963 run, this 1962 proof belongs to the series' collector-focused proof issues, which began in 1950. It is a fitting addition to a Franklin proof date set, a collection of United States silver coinage or a display of classic American half dollars. The holder states PR65 without a Cameo or Deep Cameo designation; neither designation is claimed.
