1962 Canadian One Cent — ICCS Certified MS-64 Red | Near-Gem Mint State | Queen Elizabeth II | Maple Twig Design
A vibrant near-gem example of the 1962 Canadian One Cent piece, independently certified by the International Coin Certification Service (ICCS) and graded MS-64 Red (Near-Gem Mint State). The coin retains nearly complete original mint red lustre — the highest colour designation for copper coinage — with a sharply struck, well-centred design and only a few minor contact marks consistent with the near-gem grade. The warm copper-red surfaces and crisp maple twig reverse make this an exceptionally attractive example of the Elizabeth II cent series.

Design
The obverse features the right-facing, uncrowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick, inscribed ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse showcases G.E. Kruger-Gray’s elegant maple twig design — two maple leaves on a twig with the denomination 1 CENT above and CANADA 1962 below — one of the most graceful and enduring reverse designs in the Canadian cent series, used from 1937 through 1996.
Why This Coin Belongs in Your Collection
Achieving MS-64 Red on a copper cent over 60 years old is a genuine accomplishment — copper is notoriously susceptible to toning and environmental damage, and the vast majority of surviving 1962 cents have long since toned to brown or red-brown. A fully red near-gem example with original lustre blazing represents the finest end of the survival spectrum for this date. Whether you are building a registry-quality collection of Elizabeth II cents, completing a date set with full red examples, or simply seeking a visually stunning piece of Canadian copper, this ICCS MS-64 Red is an outstanding choice.
Encapsulated in an original ICCS sealed holder. Tampering with the holder invalidates the certification opinion. Have holder replaced if inner package/seal is not intact.
