Benjamin Franklin and the Liberty Bell
The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, with LIBERTY above and IN GOD WE TRUST below. The date appears beside the portrait. The reverse depicts the Liberty Bell with a small eagle to its right, surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR, with E PLURIBUS UNUM beside the bell. John R. Sinnock's designs give the series its enduring connection to American history.
Proof issue and collecting appeal
The Franklin half dollar series ran from 1948 through 1963, with proof issues beginning in 1950. This 1959 example belongs to that collector-focused proof run and offers a fitting addition to a Franklin date set, a collection of United States silver proofs or a display of classic American half dollars. PR66 is the grade stated on the holder; no Cameo or Deep Cameo designation is shown, and none is claimed.
Appearance and holder condition
The photographs show reflective surfaces and areas of warm colour. Please examine both images for the specific coin's toning and appearance. Visible scuffs and scratches on the holder should be considered separately from the coin's assigned grade. The listed weight is the standard coin specification, not the shipping weight of the encapsulated item.
