Dated Ottawa, 1954, the obverse features the iconic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by artist Yousuf Karsh, in which the highlights of her hair behind the ear were perceived by many to resemble a demonic face — giving rise to the legendary Devil's Face nickname. The Bank of Canada subsequently modified the portrait, making the original Devil's Face notes a highly sought-after variety among Canadian paper money collectors.
