A distinctive date in the George VI series
The 1948 dollar carries the revised royal inscription GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX, omitting the title Emperor of India following India's independence. This connects the issue to the preceding 1947 Maple Leaf coinage, which used the earlier date while revised dies were awaited. For collectors assembling a George VI dollar set, the 1948 issue is an important date to pursue.
The Voyageur design
The obverse features T. H. Paget's uncrowned, left-facing portrait of George VI. Emanuel Hahn's reverse depicts an Indigenous paddler and a voyageur in a canoe with bundled cargo, accompanied by an island, trees and stylized northern lights. CANADA appears above, with 1948 and DOLLAR below.
Condition and appearance
MS60 is the entry numerical Mint State grade, not an indication of mark-free surfaces. The supplied photographs show numerous visible marks and fine lines across the portrait, fields and reverse, together with darker reflective areas and a lighter patch near the upper-right reverse field. Please inspect both sides closely for the individual surface characteristics. No Cameo, prooflike or additional variety designation is recorded on the visible ICCS label, and none is claimed here.
The three photographs show both coin faces and the certification label. Reflections, scratches and marks on the plastic can influence the photographs and should be considered separately from the coin itself. The grade is stated as assigned by ICCS.
Encapsulated in the pictured ICCS sealed holder. Tampering with the holder invalidates the certification opinion. Have the holder replaced if the inner package or seal is not intact. Listed measurements are standard coin specifications, not shipping measurements for the encapsulated item.
The ICCS-certified coin shown is the exact coin you will receive. Guaranteed authentic.
