1947 Maple Leaf Canadian Silver Dollar – AU50

This 1947 Maple Leaf Canadian silver dollar pairs the uncrowned portrait of George VI with Emanuel Hahn's classic Voyageur reverse. The small maple leaf beside the date identifies the distinctive transitional issue. The coin is offered in the pictured cardboard flip, marked AU50 (About Uncirculated 50).

The 1947 Maple Leaf issue

The maple leaf distinguishes coins struck in 1948 using the existing 1947-dated design while new dies were awaited. The change followed India's independence and the removal of the royal title referring to Emperor of India from the coinage inscription. This small symbol gives the issue a specific place in the transition between Canada's 1947 and 1948 coinage.

George VI and the Voyageur design

The obverse features T. H. Paget's left-facing portrait of George VI, with the royal inscription surrounding it. The reverse depicts an Indigenous paddler and a voyageur in a canoe carrying bundled cargo, with an island, trees and stylized northern lights behind them. CANADA appears above, with the date, maple leaf and DOLLAR below.

Condition and appearance

AU50 is the grade written on the holder, not an independent grading-service opinion. The photographs show wear and numerous visible surface marks and fine lines across the portrait and fields. Bright reflective areas contrast with darker patches, and a narrow band of yellow-gold colour is visible near portions of the rim. Please review both photographs closely for surface condition and overall appearance. Reflections and marks on the flip's window can also affect the images; no claim of original, untouched or problem-free surfaces is made.

Collecting appeal

A distinctive addition to a George VI silver dollar collection or a date-and-variety set, combining the familiar Voyageur design with the historically significant maple leaf date marker. Both supplied photographs show the individual example offered.

The coin is housed in the pictured stapled cardboard flip, not a certified grading holder. Listed measurements are standard coin specifications, not shipping measurements.
