A circulated example of the 1937 Bank of Canada Five Dollar note — and notably a Replacement (Star) Note, identified by the Z/C prefix — certified and graded Fine 15 by Banknote Certification Service (BCS) with the coveted BCS Guarantee. Catalogue reference BC-23c, bearing the signatures of J.E. Coyne (Deputy Governor) and G.F. Towers (Governor), prefix Z/C, serial number Z/C6593447. BCS notes Tears as a comment.

Replacement notes were printed to substitute for sheets damaged during production, making them scarcer than regular issues and highly sought after by Canadian paper money collectors. Dated Ottawa, 2nd January, 1937, the obverse features a portrait of King George VI in military uniform at centre, flanked by blue-green serial numbers on a rich blue ground, printed by the British American Bank Note Company, Limited. The reverse displays the iconic allegorical fisherman vignette in deep blue tones — one of the most celebrated reverse designs in Canadian numismatic history.
