Canada's first silver dollar

Introduced in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of George V, this issue inaugurated Canada's silver dollar series. Its first-year significance makes it a fitting starting point for a Canadian silver dollar date set, while its commemorative portrait distinguishes it from the regular issues that followed.

Jubilee portrait and Voyageur design

The obverse features a crowned and robed portrait of George V by Percy Metcalfe. The surrounding inscription includes ANNO REGNI XXV, referring to the twenty-fifth year of his reign. Emanuel Hahn's reverse depicts an Indigenous paddler and a voyageur travelling by canoe, with bundled cargo, an island, trees and stylized northern lights behind them. CANADA appears above, with the date and DOLLAR below.

Appearance and collecting appeal

The photographs show silver-grey surfaces with areas of warmer colour and visible marks, including small dark spots in the obverse field near the portrait. Please inspect both sides closely for the individual coin's toning, surface characteristics and overall appearance. The assigned MS-64 grade is ICCS's assessment and does not imply a mark-free coin. No doubled-die or other variety attribution appears in the holder's comments, and none is claimed.

The holder and certification-label photographs are included alongside both coin faces. The listed weight is the standard coin specification, not the shipping weight of the encapsulated item.

The ICCS-certified coin shown is the exact coin you will receive. Guaranteed authentic.
