George V and the early nickel five-cent series

The obverse features Sir E. B. MacKennal's crowned and robed portrait of George V, surrounded by the royal inscription. The reverse presents a large numeral 5, the words FIVE CENTS, CANADA above, and two maple leaves flanking the denomination, with the date below.

Canada introduced the larger nickel five-cent piece in 1922, replacing the much smaller silver five-cent coin. This 1927 example belongs to that early nickel series and offers a distinctive contrast to both the Victorian silver issues and the later beaver reverse introduced in 1937.

Condition and appearance

The AU55 grade places this coin in the About Uncirculated range, with light wear rather than a Mint State designation. The photographs show clear portrait and reverse details, darker fields and bright highlights on raised portions of the design. Small marks are visible, and reflections from the holder influence the apparent colour and brightness. Please examine both coin photographs closely for its individual surfaces and overall appearance.

Collecting appeal

An appealing date for a George V five-cent collection or a Canadian denomination type set, with the grade and certification documented on the separate label photograph. The three supplied images show the specific coin and its ICCS holder.

Encapsulated in the pictured ICCS sealed holder. Marks and reflections on the plastic should be considered separately from the coin. Tampering with the holder invalidates the certification opinion. Have the holder replaced if the inner package or seal is not intact. The measurements listed are standard coin specifications, not the shipping weight or dimensions of the encapsulated item.
