1918 Canada 1 Cent — PCGS MS 64 RB | King George V | Red-Brown | Final Year Large Cent | WWI Era

A choice near-gem mint state example of the 1918 Canada One Cent — certified and graded Mint State 64 Red-Brown (RB) by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), cert 30208.64/1579222, in an early PCGS rattler holder (green label, pre-gold shield era). The 1918 holds a special place in Canadian numismatic history as the final year of issue for the Canadian large cent — a coin type that had been struck since 1858. After 1918, Canada transitioned to the smaller small cent format, making this the last of a 60-year tradition of large copper coinage. Struck during the closing months of the First World War, this coin is a tangible piece of Canadian history from one of the most consequential years of the 20th century. The RB designation confirms the coin retains a pleasing blend of original mint red and natural brown toning, with exceptional detail and well-preserved surfaces at MS 64.

The obverse features the left-facing crowned portrait of King George V surrounded by the legend GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND: IMP:. The reverse displays a maple wreath enclosing the denomination ONE CENT, with CANADA above and the date 1918 below. Struck in bronze at the Royal Canadian Mint, Ottawa.
