A choice extra fine example of the 1900 Newfoundland Twenty Cents — certified and graded Extremely Fine 40 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), cert 2758311-008, in a mid-generation NGC holder bearing the ANA and PNG endorsements. Struck by the Colony of Newfoundland — which did not join Confederation until 1949 — this twenty cent piece is a popular pre-Confederation issue actively collected by specialists in Victorian Canadian and Newfoundland coinage. At XF 40, the coin shows moderate even wear on the high points with all major design elements sharp and well-defined.
The obverse features the right-facing portrait of Queen Victoria (veiled bust) surrounded by the legend VICTORIA D:G: REG: NEWFOUNDLAND. The reverse displays the denomination 20 CENTS and the date 1900 within an ornate wreath. Struck in .925 fine silver at the Heaton Mint, Birmingham or the Royal Mint, London.
