A well-preserved example of the 1874 Newfoundland Fifty Cents — a large silver colonial issue struck for the Dominion of Newfoundland — certified and graded Extra Fine 40 by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), cert 33228.40/29817609. A scarce Victorian-era silver half-dollar displaying bold detail and pleasing original surfaces consistent with the XF designation.
The obverse features the Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria surrounded by the legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA NEWFOUNDLAND. The reverse displays the denomination 50 CENTS and date 1874 within an ornate floral and scroll wreath. Struck in .925 fine silver at the Royal Mint, London.
