Features and designs

The obverse depicts Liberty seated beside a shield, holding a pole topped by a liberty cap, with stars around the border and the date 1860 below. The reverse depicts a shield-bearing eagle with spread wings, holding arrows and an olive branch, surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the quarter-dollar denomination. The supplied reverse photograph is upside down.

Condition and appearance

The photographs show substantial circulation wear, with flattened high points and reduced detail in Liberty’s figure and the eagle. Lighter grey raised details contrast with darker grey-brown fields and recessed areas. Scattered surface marks are visible. PCGS assigns VG10; this is a circulated coin, not an uncirculated example.

No additional variety designation is stated on the label or claimed here. Please inspect both photographs closely for this example’s individual surfaces, remaining detail and holder condition. Reflections, scratches and marks on the plastic holder may affect the images.

Collecting appeal
