L. Gordon Cooper spent a full day in space in Faith 7. The 34 hour 19 minute and 46 second flight helped NASA evaluate the effects of weightlessness on the human body. The 22-orbit flight was the longest of the Mercury missions and prepared NASA for the next step in the space program.
